Volunteering at Animal Services

I can honestly say that volunteering with Animal Services is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I feel so fortunate to be able to work alongside people that I respect and with whom I share a similar mindset. The staff and volunteers at Winnipeg Animal Services work together as a team to make a difference in the dog community by promoting responsible pet ownership through public education and adoption.

To be passionate about something and to be able to feel that what you are doing is making a difference, is priceless.

“Meet Colleen! She is a retired nurse and photographer. Colleen volunteers her time weekly and takes pictures of our dogs to help them get adopted. She is also part of a small team that helps maintain our social media channels. Thank you!”

“Be the change… Volunteer.”

A Home for Blizzard

Just one wish… a home

Blizzard is simply one of the sweetest gals you will ever meet. She is a little shy at first but soon warms up to a gentle touch and the promise of cookies. She loves the outdoors and is an expert at zoomies. This girl will have you smiling in no time… and will have your heart just as quickly.

Blizzard needs a home.

Marjorie Needs A Home

She waits…

Marjorie is a 2 year old beautiful boxer who has been waiting at Winnipeg Animal Services for far too long. She came in as an unclaimed stray way back in May. That’s a long time for anyone to wait, let alone a big, bouncy boxer gal.

Marjorie does have some issues and we are not shying away from them. But most can be managed and even eliminated if she were in a home with a family to guide her.

Marjorie is big for a boxer and she is strong. She needs someone with experience and with the strength to handle her. In the kennel environment she is not getting along with the other dogs. Kennel environments often exacerbate this behaviour. It is hoped that her being in a home situation could make all the difference, but for now it is recommended that she go to a family with no other dogs.

I know, I know, this all seems daunting. But really, all that aside, this girl will steal your heart if given half a chance. Marjorie will do almost anything for a yummy treat and that is a good thing… training will be easy.

She loves to run and play, frolicking about like only a boxer can, jowls flapping. Her silly antics will have you smiling in no time. This girl is just sooo much fun! All she needs is that special someone who is willing to give her a chance.

If you would like to meet Marjorie or would like more information, please come down to Winnipeg Animal Services and the staff will be happy to help you.

Just a reminder when you are adopting a pet, to take the time to meet the scared ones, the shy ones, the ones with the boring colours or missing limbs, the older ones, the frail ones. They have not given up. They just need you. And maybe you just need them too.

Barry Needs A Home

Barry came to Winnipeg Animal Services as a scared and sad little fellow. At that time he was about 4 months old.

Almost 3 months later Barry is still waiting and hoping to find his forever family. This little pup is growing up in a shelter.

He needs out.

He needs to play.

He needs a family.

Barry is a young lab mix. Because of his pent up energy he overreacts in his kennel and does not present well. He barks, he jumps, he acts silly.

Please ignore!

Instead, take this boy outside to one of the outdoor enclosures and meet the real pup… the one who loves to play ball, the one who would love to show you the tricks he has learned. The one who LOVES to run but does settle after he is able to release some energy.

Barry is young, approximately 6 months old… and he is smart. He will need an experienced owner, one who can help him with his manners and one who is willing to spend time with him. He loves learning new tricks and loves attention.

Barry is a great dog… he just needs a family to call his own. He needs someone to throw his ball!

If you would like to meet Barry, please come down to Animal Services at 1057 Logan Ave. The staff will be happy to help you and answer any questions you may have.
