And so begins our day… up before the sun.
On our way home we met up with our little bud, Bagel.
Good morning sunshine…

After many a prairie winter, the first snow is still a pivotal event, one that leaves me feeling in awe and, at the same time, in a bit of a dither. This year the white morning arrived totally unannounced, with barely a frosty morning as a prelude. I kind of liked it that way.
With only warmer temps and abundant sunshine in the foreseeable forecast, enjoying the white morning was a given.
Perhaps more fun for some than others.
Lacie loves the snow. Coco… not so much, even though he got to wear his nifty red sweater with the comfy turned up collar.
With the absence of Jack Frost providing a first act, the flowers were caught a little off guard… but still appeared very dapper in their new flurry top hats.
The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment, then where is it to be found? – JB Priestley
The time of year doesn’t really matter at the shelter… it is almost always busy and noisy.
Happily, this holiday season, the numbers are low but, sadly, many of the dogs that are still waiting and hoping are “long-timers”… many here since the summer, some since the spring.
It’s these dogs that are featured here today… all decked out in front of the Christmas tree, hoping that they too will get their Christmas wish.
“Hi,” I said. She came over, licked my hand discreetly, allowed herself to be scratched for a time, chased her tail in a dignified circle, lay down again. I remember thinking: “There are times God puts a choice in front of you.” I often had such thoughts back then. We took the dog. ~ Stanley Bing

Meet Serena, a twelve year old Cocker mix whose energetic happy nature belie her years. The venue for this photo session was the lovely St. Vital Park in Winnipeg. The day was perfect… sunny, warm, wrapped in all the good things that spring has to offer.
Such cuteness… I love how her grey fringed ears frame that sweet face.
Getting together with Cindy and Jeff is always a pleasure. This couple is amazing… their love for animals apparent in everything they do. Serena first entered their life as a rescue but now has permanent residence status in both their home and in their hearts.
